Husk
The girl who cops
a feel behind the greenhouse
makes a promiseâ
crosshatches her heart
with a rusted garden trowel,
wrings out her aorta
in a bracken field,
composts her underskirtâ
the husk of somebody
taller.
Her body is arpeggiated,
played in pieces
that falter towards
the empty canopy.
He knows her hesitation
like the palm of his hand,
leaves a thumbprint
on her cheek, the size of
a souvenir.
There are jellybeans
at the counter of
the abortion clinic.
There are reasons
to pick the black jellybean.
There are reasons
her body is not a vessel,
but a wildfire, an orange
brushstroke amongst
grey oblongs.
